This is the first part in a two-part class that goes into depth about seed starting indoors and all the ways it can be done with success. Soil Success in Gardens and Container Gardens June 28th
Soil! Soil is amazing and alive! Is the soil in your garden healthy? How do you know? What should healthy soil look like? How to enhance, protect, amend and rebuild the soil in your garden, neighborhood and the planet! We will cover soil composition, how to test your soil and amend it for a healthy garden. We will also talk about the differences between soils in the ground v.s. raised beds v.s. container gardens and how to best prepare it so your garden shines.
Native Plants v.s Nativars v.s Cultivars July 27th
What are the differences between natives, nativars, and cultivars and why do they matter? There are environmental, economic and long term impacts to the ecosystem from selecting genetically modified plants created to appeal to human taste. This class will teach you important distinctions between these kinds of plants, how to integrate plants you enjoy without guilt, add natives to add diversity to your space, and help you make informed decisions as a consumer, without judgement, to aid the planet and our local ecosystem.
Traditional Seed Starting Part 2 Wednesday, August 24th
This presentation is a continuation of Miriam Cheng's first Seed Sowing program from May. It will include companion planting, square foot gardening, permaculture food forest, and how to apply traditional farming techniques in the urban flower/herb/vegetable garden. We will talk about sustainability in urban gardening and how we can make a difference in our own backyards and communities.
